Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps Pair of Games on Sunday

FLORENCE, SC-The Bloomsburg University softball team won two games on Sunday at the Francis Marion Tournament in Florence, South Carolina. The Huskies beat Francis Marion, 3-2, in nine innings, then beat North Carolina Central, 7-1.

The two wins move Bloomsburg coach Jan Hutchinson to within seven victories of becoming the all-time leader in NCAA Division II softball wins. Hutchinson now has 1,005 for her career as she chases former Augustana coach Sandy Gerstad for the all-time lead.

In game one of the day, the Huskies scored single runs in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings to earn the win. Bloomsburg scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth when Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) scored on a Lisa Bohner (Northumberland/Shikellamy) two-out, run scoring single.

In game two, the Huskies scored twice in the first and added three more runs in the second to open a 5-0 lead. Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) had the big hit in the second inning blasting a three-run homer. Melissa Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) also added a solo homer for Bloomsburg, while Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) went the distance pitching striking out eight.

The Huskies, 2-3, play at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina on Tuesday.
